Forget about the 80’s revival, here is the real deal

Seperate Ways by Journey model/actress

Some Twitter friends and I have spent most of the day reminiscing about 80’s music and culture, because we were actually there. As I was working my way through some Friday Night Videos playlists, I managed to catch this screen shot taken of the model who appears in the Separate Ways video by Journey.

Check the makeup.

Notice the lack of eyeliner on the upper lids. I don’t think I actually used eyeliner on my upper lid until I was a senior in high school. Maybe I didn’t realize that it was supposed to go there? The only difference between her and I is that her liner is a nice smokey gray whereas mine was dramatic jet black. And probably cheap.

Notice the awesome cheek contouring. There are probably about three different shades of blush on there. In fact, in the mid 1980’s, Cover Girl broke new ground with a blush set with three different shades: light, medium, and dark, that you were to use to get that dramatic and sharp ’80’s cheek look by using the darkest color under your cheekbone.

Lastly, the lips. Specifically the shine. We carried Bonnie Bell Lipsmackers glosses in glass bottles with rollerballs full of gunky lip gloss to faithfully apply every ten minutes. I preferred bubble gum flavor, because you know it was flavored and sweet.

Do you have any makeup memories from the 1980s? Do share!
