Seems like every celeb has a fragrance out now. Some of them are good, some of them are just awful. Forever Mariah Carey Eau de Parfum Spray
seems to fall somewhere inbetween.
Billed as a “modern opulent floral”, Forever Mariah Carey Eau de Parfum Spray
makes me feel like fragrance today just doesn’t have the heart that vintage scents do. If this is the most opulent white floral out there, I don’t have much hope for white florals. And while I’m not typically a floral fragrance person, I do have a soft spot for gardenia and tuberose, especially in the summers when it’s humid and sultry.
It’s not that Forever Mariah Carey Eau de Parfum Spray is bad, or doesn’t smell good – far from it. I can best describe it as kind of crisp and watery, which combined with the white florals at least makes it interesting. But watery isn’t my favorite – I like serious staying power and depth. I believe it’s the crisp green apple note on the top that really sets the stage, and when the white floral heart has bloomed and gone leaving us with just a tepid woody musk you’re kind of left feeling a bit, well, tepid.
If you’re into crisp and clean fragrances with a touch of floral, this might be for you. The clean note never really goes away, and there is no sense of dirt or any animalistic note whatsoever. It’s clean through and through.
Perfumer Olivier Gillotin of Givaudan worked with Carey to create the modern opulent floral, which has top notes of neroli, lotus blossom and dewy green apple; a heart of tuberose and gardenia, and a drydown of white musk and exotic woods. “When I first met with Mariah, I was inspired to create a glamorous, opulent floral,” said Gillotin. “I wanted the scent to be radiant but to also evoke a warm sensuality. This fragrance has iconic white florals, which convey a powerful message of feminine sensuality and classic glamour.”
The collection includes eau de parfum in three sizes — 1 oz. for $42, 1.7 oz. for $55 and 3.3 oz. for $65 — as well as a 0.5-oz. parfum, $250, and a 6.8-oz. body lotion, $28.
