I love it when I can find a product that just enables whatever new obsession I’m working my way through. In case you haven’t heard of BB creams, they are a relatively new import from the east that combine makeup and skin care ingredients all in one easy to use product, minimizing the amount of time you spend layering products on your face. It’s about time, right? I was fortunate enough to be able to try the two new formulations by Dr. Jart, and I love them both.
First up is Dr. Jart’s Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF 25/PA++, which retails for $32 for 1.7 fl.oz. at Sephora. This BB is made with something like 50% water, using “micro-bead technology”, and is supposed to be extra moisturizing without being oily or greasy. In fact, there are no mineral oils, only pigments to help neutralize troubled skin, hylaluronic acid for incredible moisture retention, necessary sunscreens, and aloe to help calm troubled skin.
When applying this BB, my skin actually did feel somewhat moist and managed to stay that way. It was a bit strange, as I’m used to feeling oily, but I didn’t. I just felt moisturized. And the pigment coverage is enough to keep me from breaking out any other foundation that I might have considered using. Definitely a multi-tasker.
Then it was time to try the queen of them all: Dr. Jart Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45/PA+++, retailing for $39 for 1.7 fl.oz. In addition to providing a higher level of sun protection, it also has a bio-peptide complex for anti-aging benefits, Arbutin for brightening skin tone, and Adnesone, which is supposed to improve elasticity.
This formulation is my favorite – the product is creamy, applies really well, and has taken the place of my regular tinted moisturizer on a daily basis. The anti-aging ingredients put me over the moon.
The Water Fuse BB would be perfect for those who need an extra shot of moisturizer and aren’t terribly worried about anti-aging properties. The Premium BB is for those who love the anti-aging properties and a bit more coverage as well as additional sunscreen.
I am only aware of these products being available at Sephora.com for the moment. I am hoping that we will see these types of creams become more and more popular, though, as they can really simplify a morning routine.
