My current morning routine with Payot, Votre Vu, Mario Badescu and Immunocologie

One of the questions I get asked the most is what I use on my face. I don’t know if it’s because I don’t have many wrinkles or fine lines (the ONLY benefit of having very oily skin) or if it’s because I have a large stash of products that I’ve either tried , used for awhile, or at least know about. While there are many brands I know, love, and often use, these are the products that are in my current morning rotation.

Let’s break it down, shall we?

  • Cleanser: Payot Purement Nettoyant Detoxifying Foam. I require salicylic acid to keep my skin under control, and this formula delivers it. It also has antiseptic essential oils of thyme, mint, and orange. It also soothes with lavender and geranium. It also has green coffee extract to help fight free radicals.
  • Mask (occasional use): Patyka Radiant Exfoliating Mask. Formulated with fruit acids and finely ground bamboo powder, it does a great job of lightly exfoliating while keeping your skin hydrated. It also has something called hexapeptide, and I’m not sure what it does exactly, but it sounds pretty cool.
  • Toner: Immunocologie Treatment Solution. One of the most unique products I’ve ever used. I’ve gone back and forth on the toner concept, but I think this is a valuable addition to any routine for any skin type. The fermentation process that the product’s ingredients go through is unique to Immunocologie, and it’s not drying in the least. It’s also not heavy, for those of you with oily skin. It leaves the skin feeling fresh, hydrated, helps to increase the penetration of other products that are applied after.
  • Facial bronzer: Self Preservation by Votre Vu. Because I exfoliate so much, I find that applying a bit of facial bronzer every morning helps even out my skin tone and gives me a touch of color. I use this product after anything exfoliating and before anything hydrating. This particular one gives me the most natural color on my face. The smell is strong, but goes away instantly.
  • Serum: Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum. This little product has changed my life. What a difference it makes when you use a vitamin C serum twice a day! My skin is so much brighter, and even some acne marks have been wiped out. It’s really amaazing, and it works on every skin tone. It doesn’t add moisture to your skin, so it’s important to use it in conjunction with a good moisturizer.
  • Moisture: Payot Creme Purifiante. I’ve loved this moisturizer since forever. Okay, maybe not forever, but I started using it in 1995-ish. It was one of the first moisturizers I had found that managed to hydrate my face while still keeping breakouts to a minimum. And at the time, that was pretty revolutionary. I didn’t even moisturize before that, knowing that my skin was just too prone to breakouts.
  • Moisture (for going outside for longer than 15 minutes, which isn’t hard to do if you work from home): Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer. Let me be the first to say it: I’m done using foundations that don’t have extra benefits in them. I don’t care if you call it a tinted moisturizer or a bb cream, there is no reason in this day and age to not have a multi-tasking foundation. This one is budget-friendly, luminizes your face like a dream, has SPF 30, and won’t break you out.
