The new Luminous Lights eye shadow by Maybelline had such potential

I have to be careful with shimmery pigments. Not that I don’t like it, but because it has a tendency to make me look rather oily and unkempt. But I really wanted to like the Maybelline Luminous Lights palette in Rose I picked up, but unfortunately, it just didn’t work for me.

The shimmer didn’t bother me at all. In fact, I really liked it. It wasn’t frosty or over the top. What bothered me is the fact that the shadow literally blended into my skin and had no pigmentation at all. I used four shades, all of which ended up looking exactly the same on my skin. You can’t tell I used an angle brush to apply the liner shade on the upper and lower lash lines. You can’t tell there were even four different shades to begin with.

Now, that could be a good thing, if you are going for the completely natural look. That is a look, however, that I don’t use very often, and when I do, I’m not going to use four shades of eyeshadow for. Your mileage may vary, of course.

The Luminous Lights collection is available at mass retailers and Ulta for $5.99.
