In some horribly shocking news, the Times Online is reporting that Alexander McQueen was found dead early this morning in his home in London. He was 40 years old, and it is apparently being considered a suicide.

Mr. McQueen was one of Britain’s best known fashion designer, and he began his illustrious career as a tailor’s apprentice on London’s Saville Row, and went on to become the creative director for the label Givenchy. He left the label in 2001 to focus on his own label, Alexander McQueen.

One really can’t talk about Alexander McQueen and not mention his friend and mentor, Isabella Blow, who encouraged him to begin his label and even bought his entire graduation collection. Ms. Blow committed suicide last year by drinking weedkiller.

McQueen was mourning the loss of his mother, who passed away two months ago, even going so far as to tell his Twitter fans that he was having a hard time getting past her death.

His vision and talent will be sorely missed.
